Uncle T.D.
A gentle giant, Uncle T.D. was a very powerful farmer who could carry a cast iron turner plow over his shoulder and walk for miles, while leading a team of mules. Folks who were children in the community in the 1940s and 1950s remember catching a ride on the back of his wagon sometimes. Bold and unafraid, he was one of the first Black men to take his wagon and team on the Western North Carolina Wagon Train through the Tennessee and Carolina mountain roads back in the 1960s.
