Whip

1987

Oil on canvas | Collection of C. K. Williams

Southerners are famous for their colorful and creative language. Once dubbed, a nickname usually lasts throughout the fortunate (or often unfortunate) person’s life.

Speaking of his grandfather, C. K. remembered, “Except for church, Whip carried his woven leather bullwhip, or a fancy riding crop everywhere he went. He could do anything with that whip! He used it like a lasso that he could even catch runaway pigs with.”
