The Runaway

Oil on Celotex| Retrospective, Ann Miller

14″ x 10″

When the school nurse who gave me my first set of used oils told me that I could paint my visions on drywall or any kind of painted surface, I asked daddy to save scraps from his construction jobs for me. Most of my artwork from the late 1950s and 60s has long since been lost. This painting was created in 1961 on a piece of sound absorbing ceiling tile called Celotex that was likely made from asbestos.
